Savoy Nites by Joe Salzano & the Blue Devils

Savoy Nites by Joe Salzano & the Blue DevilsRobert Bell, professional guitarist at the Twin Cities Hot Club and a devotee of gypsy jazz music, has ordered this CD, which gets good reviews from the Swing dance crowd.

Ron’s CD Review writes "This band was excellent at the Hop the Millenium dance competition in Ensenada, Mexico." Ron likes "Blue Devil Stomp" (39 MPM) and the six-minute original "Phantom Blues" (37 MPM).

DJ Ryan Swift says, "The whole album is great plus it’s the first band I danced to live."

Available from Telemark Music.

We’ve lost track of the band. Anyone know where they’re playing now?

Superior Dancing 4

Superior Dancing 4Today I was foxtrotting to Jim Reeves’ famous vocal: “I Love You Because”.  It was glorious.  I actually got some flight!

It’s probably my favorite Foxtrot, and it can be found on Superior Dancing Vol. IV.  Among the 20 tracks of Standard and Latin dances, there are many good vocals by original artists.

El Nuevo Cha Cha Cha

El Nuevo Cha Cha ChaI’m still in a Cha Cha mood, and my selection today is “Amor”, a hot female vocal on Andy Fortuna’s CD El Nuevo Cha Cha Cha. The choice was a tight contest with another track, “Bilando Boogaloo Remix”.

Actually all 17 tracks have a driving, distinct Latin beat that you can’t miss. You’ll have fun with it.

Casa Musica 15: Latinos

Casa Musica 15: LatinosToday I have the urge to Cha Cha and I have chosen “Chilly Cha Cha Cha” by Jessica Jay on Casa Musica 15: Latinos. It’s very popular with other dancers as well.

Gold Standard

Gold Standard CoverGOLD STANDARD by Ross Mitchell, His Band & Singers (DLD 1054, $27) is my favorite CD for Standard Dancing. I use it every day to practice. It has 32 tracks—9 Quicksteps, 8 Waltzes, 8 Foxtrots, 3 Tangos, and 3 Viennese Waltzes.

I like all 32 tracks, but my favorites are “Desert Song” (W), “Kisses in the Dark” (W), “When You Wish Upon A Star” (FT), “Moonlight Serenade (FT), “The Rain In Spain” (T), and “A New Fangled Tango”.

You’ll really like it!
